SOME WOMEN REFUSE TO SHARE THEIR RECIPES?

~MY RECIPES DO NOT DEFINE ME~THE RESULTS OF THEM AND THE SHARING OF THEM DOES~
Does this scream out to you on a rainy day? At my house, a rainy day is a great opportunity to gather my teens around me with comforts and memories that bind us all together with the taste and smells of home. When I was growing up, my Mom worked outside the home...always,  I was what they call a latch key kid! I guess I found comfort in the kitchen as I would call her at work and she would give me the instructions to start preparations for dinner. This helped her, since she got home usually around 5:30pm and it helped me to not feel so lonely while giving me a sense of purpose and responsibility. I have one older brother 5 years my senior, but he was usually busy in his life, so it was just me. I remember chilling glasses in the freezer for my parents so they could have something a little special with their dinner. I was a pleaser and I was hopeful to make them happier than I knew they were .  Ok, that's another post! So, with sharing that little memory into my past, here are a few memories I tried to create over our rainy weekend.

Making Cards is really enjoyable and a great way
to enjoy my time with these growing teens who seem to open up when they are a part of things. The girls of coarse...my guys...not so much on the cards! But they enjoy the food that is happening!
The guys hover around the kitchen and family room as to be sure they are not missing out on any important discoveries from the oven. They add a few tauntings and teasings to keep up the fireworks,
while the girls make sure they are at the front of the line for the first tastings emerging from the kitchen....ahhh the balance in all things!
The men in my home eat half a dozen of everything!! usually when it is all still warm from the oven, I think there is something about allowing them their fill. I like them to feel that there is always enough.
In my youth, I remember having to be careful and not always having a FILLED PANTRY.This is my way of changing my past and offering my children something different. I always say that we either repeat our upbringing or we change it. I have tried to change the things I didn't care for and repeat the things I thought were worthy of passing on . I am sure I have not been completely successful at this, but I continue to try!
AND BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND...THE PINEAPPLE SCONE!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend
I am wishing you all my Aloha for a Fabulous week

  1. I have made your delicious rolls and swear by them now. Thanks girl for giving me a very tender way for me and my son to bond before he leaves. He has know idea why I make him knead the dough but I'm thankful to you for knowing I could really use this extra mother son time.

Oh how I wish we were in the same ward. I look forward to always hearing these loving tales of your days growing up in a loving family. It brings me comfort. I pass down much to my kids now and although I have never had a real relationship with my mother, I love hearing those kinds of stories. It helps me to see I am a good mom to my own daughter I guess.

I'm working on my baking skills this year. I will be making these chocolate chip cookies tomorrow because I have the help of my daughter after school. It is always uplifting to read your posts sistah!

  4. Well, there goes my diet!
That's the same recipe I use for cookies, too - on those rare occasions when I bake; add some walnuts or pecans, eat them hot out of the oven...Heaven on a plate!
This is so sweet -"~MY RECIPES DO NOT DEFINE ME~THE RESULTS OF THEM AND THE SHARING OF THEM DOES~"
YOU MADE THOSE CARDS?!!!! They're amazing! I love the one that says Live Like You Mean It.
And one last thing - you have such a talent in the kitchen, particularly with baked temptations - how do y'all stay so trim?

  6. We have much in common! I was also a latchkey kid - however I have 2 younger brothers and I started cooking at a young age because I enjoyed it, out of necessity, and wanting to help - I often made dinner when I was 10+.
I still enjoy cooking and how it binds a family together.
Teens are great - I love them and all of their fun ways and especially the way they love food.
You sound like a wonderful mother - Your food looks delicious - I am especially looking at those pineapple scones - never seen those before they look yummy!
Glad you found something fun to do in paradise on a rainy day and I know your kids appreciate what a fun and creative mom they have :D

  7. There is nothing like a good chocolate chip cookie! When we moved to Central California from Southern California we had 55 straight days of fog and miserableness...my son and I made cookie about every other day (not good for the waistline!). Of course the whole time, I kept thinking we could have been in Hawaii - that is where the other job offer was! The pineapple scones look delicious we love scones.

  15. Hi there! Your cookies look delicious - I'll have to try baking them with the kids this week. I've always wondered what it would be like to live and raise a family in paradise. I have never been to Hawaii, but hope to get there some day. My parents and sister are going there later this month for vacation and I am green with envy!

BYW, I linked the recipe for the puffy pancakes on the bottom of the birthday post.
